Why Anastasia Fitness is Different - From a Member - Thanks Spyro

Kevin,

I wanted to write to tell you something.

I have been looking into moving to the jax beach area, and I have been looking for houses to buy or rent, and warehouses too - for car work.  The search continues.  I am already a member of a new church there.  One day, while walking back to my car, I noticed a cross - fit gym on the corner up there.  I walked in to ask about prices, etc.  I was emailed a pricing sheet.  It starts with ten assessments (these are mandatory) at 60.00 per each, and once those are complete, the membership is 185.00 per month.  They recommend members not "subject themselves" to more than 3 workouts per week.  I did the math, and somehow ended up telling these facts to Seth, and later to Josh.  I thought the fees were laughably outrageous.

Anyway, Josh mentioned a class he teaches that is like a crossfit type workout, and I thought I would give it a try.

I have been attending for weeks now.   It takes a lot to commit to the early morning time slot, so it must be offering something I felt is needed.  I like the class because it breaks up the weight training routine with higher impact exercise, and essential (and / or often overlooked) muscle groups like core muscles are a center piece of the training regimen Josh uses.  I love this because I know core strength is essential for injury prevention, it promotes good form that carries over into my current and into other new exercises, and I like that Josh has already "thought up" a routine and how he offers direction to be sure the motions are done properly by attendees.  Today, Josh's routine even had you using a partner to assist with the execution of the resistance band training.  This promotes the camraderie in the room, and makes attendees feel a bit like a family.  With my other strength training routines, my recovery ability can only afford a class like this once per week.  So that is perfect, and speaking of affording, the fact that it does not cost nearly $3,000.00 per year...is also very good.  Haha

This is my first foray into classes / team training type of exercise, and I am impressed with Josh and the class he leads.

I just thought you should know!

Kettlebell Training with Kevin

Robert Merrell found me from StrongFirst, my method for kettlebell training and certification.  He drove over from Gainesville to get a weekly dose of hard style kettlebell training, with his goal of passing the StrongFirst certification.

I enthusiastically recommend Kevin with reservation!  The 90mile trip to see him was well worth it given his expertise, passion and client-centered approach.  Kevin pays attention to athletic intention and history.  He asks astute questions--and responds thoughtfully to feedback--in order to optimize development/implementation of appropriate training protocals.  He is kind and driven coach, someone I'd recommend to my siblings, friends or parents.  He inspires beyond the gym with well-timed texts.  He truly cares.

New Evening Group Fitness Schedule

While we understand routine can be a comfort we know it's important to avoid/overcome plateaus as well as avoid mental fatigue with the same ol' same ol'. We want to ensure you avoid those plateaus and stay excited about showing up for the challenge of a good workout. We will be introducing a new evening schedule every four months. Our first re-write in the series will begin the week following Thanksgiving.

Train with Rich

Honestly, at first, I was intimidated….

I first met Rich at a seminar on knee health given at Anastasia Fitness in early September.  While the group went through a series of knee movements, Rich looked at me and said my right hip was my problem.  As a runner with right hip pain, I was impressed!  (I was diagnosed with severe osteopenia in my right hip 3 years ago;  I have since improved to moderate osteopenia.)  Rich arranged a time to meet one on one with me for an assessment (at no charge, a perk offered to all attending the seminar).  After observing my running gate, he said that he could fix my stride, thus helping my hip.  He delivered!

Long story short…my run times have improved…Pink Up The Pace 5k from a 17:07 pace in 2016 to an 11:00 pace in 2017;  Cottonmouth 1/4 Marathon from a 13:25 pace in 2016 to a 10:34 pace in 2017;  and best of all, my hip pain and tightness are greatly reduced!

Rich has such a wonderful working knowledge of exercise kinesiology.  I have learned so much from him.  If I’m unable to master a movement, he adapts one for me to accomplish the same function.  He explains running and body mechanics in a way that I can understand.  I’ve been running (actually shuffling) wrong for a long, long time…but with Rich’s patience and excellent coaching...no more shuffling for me!!  Rich doesn’t give up on you…ever!
