Mindfulness for Meeting Uncertainty
Course description
In this 6- week course, participants will explore the four foundations of mindfulness and experience various mindfulness meditation practices as taught in the 8-week MBSR course written by Jon Kabat Zinn. It is emphasized that this course is not MBSR in that it does not include all components of the MBSR curriculum and, furthermore, might make social distancing difficult.
This course is geared toward anyone wishing to experience the benefits of mindfulness practice and who has never meditated before, as well as those who wish to further deepen or rekindle an existing practice.
In these days of pandemic surrounded by so much uncertainty and fear, it has never been a more perfect time to learn how to meet the present moment no matter what life brings.
I am a retired RN, having practiced nursing for 43 years and it is my commitment to keep you safe both physically and emotionally. We will protect ourselves from the coronavirus by practicing the guidelines established by the Center for Disease Control, washing hands when entering the building, wearing masks until seated in the classroom and always at a minimal of 6 feet apart. The new studio can accommodate 18, but I will limit the class number to 9 participants so we will be even further distanced from each other.
I require a brief phone interview* with each potential participant to make sure this course is a good fit for you. Some conditions give rise to caution about taking a course like this in which emotions are deeply explored:
• Active addiction
• A recent loss of a loved one
• Untreated mental or emotional illness
• New in recovery for an addiction
• PTSD
• Social anxiety
• Acute depression
• Suicidality
Participants are asked to bring their own yoga mats rather than borrow mats at the studio. Chairs are available and we will wipe them with disinfectant before and after. Please bring props such as pillows, cushions. Additionally bring a notebook and pen for brief journaling.
The poet Rumi speaks of “two kinds of intelligence”:
One that is acquired...one already completed and preserved inside of you.
Join me in exploring this time-honored practice and the wisdom that informs it as you discover that which is already complete and preserved inside of you.
Sincerely,
Judy Angyalfy
